Weekly review

t's a week that saw the gaging  of media rights and freedom while covering national assembly meetings as provided in chapter four of the kenyan constitution and the bill of rights in article 33 and qoute..            The offensive Section 34 of the Powers and Privileges Committee provides that a person who publishes any false or scandalous libel on Parliament, its committees or its proceedings or speaks words defamatory of the House is liable to a fine or jail term.
?It also states that a person convicted of an offence under the Act for which no penalty is provided shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding Sh500,000 or a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years, or both.         34...........after the national parliament passed a controversial bill regulating media from exposing MPs in their extravagant and embezzlement of public funds. A bill tabled by   Eldas member of parliament Aden Kenan and passed by the notional parliament and only waited for President Uhuru Kenyatta to assent it as stipulated by the Kenyan constitution in Chapter 16 article 256 and clause 3.. Quote..                                                             But lucky enough the president dismissed it during mashujaa days celebrations.. Byte Uhuru..                                       The week also holds a historical figure since it is during 20th  Oct. That Kenyans celebrates mashujaa day to congratulate as well as remember the the triumph deeds of Kenyan hero's those living and those who lived.... But unfortunately MAU MAU veteran Gatua wa kahengeri celebrated it in sombre moods since he lost his wife..                                                                          It's also this kind of a week where the notorious hate speech syndrome repeated its self after former Nairobi mayor George Alandwa altered suggestive hate speech statement that caught the nerves of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission and director of public prosecution Keriako Tobiko giving him an arrest warrant. According to chapter four of the Kenyan constitution and article 33.. Quote constitution... But the rights are limited to ...quote.. Cndtution..  This limitations of freedom of expression have attrated attension to leaders like machakos senator and wiper party member johnson muthama.. Gatundu MP and jubilee figure moses kuria.. Former nairobi mayor and cord affiliate gorge alandwa and politicle analist Mutahi Ngunyi who have been caught live on camera or quoted on social media .last week also witnessed the impeachment of muranga governor mwangi wa iria by the county assembly on wenesday the 21st of october 2015 after being accused of frauding 2.5 billions. Mwangi is not the only embattled governor since embu governor martin wambora.. Makueni governor dr kivutha kibwana nakuru governor kinuthia mbugua and kiambu governor william kabogo are some of the governors who have or risks impeachment. There have been concerns as to why after impeachment the process takes long to be implemented and the seats declared vacant .   it wad also a breathless week for bungoma county senator moses masika wetangula where now The coalition for reforms and democracy, CORD, wants now to move to court to seek an injunction to stop IEBC from striking  Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula’s name from the voters register.
Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale who has condemned the move by senate speaker to gazette the supreme court report on Wetangula, has also alleged a plot by Jubilee to intimidate and silence the Senator who continues to be one of the government’s harshest critics.
Siaya senator James Orengo has also termed the move as inconsequential, saying if the alleged offence was committed during 4th march 2013 general election, then the december 2013 senatorial by-election shouldn’t have been held. The story mave been developing ever since march 17 2015 after the supreme court of kenya petition no. 12 of 2014 moses masika wetangula and musikari nazi kombo and 2 others found that moses masika wetangula comitted an eletion offence of bribery during the march 4 2013 general elections.. He now risks an eletion ban if he his name will be removed from voters registration by IEBC.Well those are some of the  weighted stories in the week of 19th to 25th October 2015.. And of course the Multimedia university 2nd granduatio and so much more.
